The Parashuram Temple is a tribute to Lord Parashurama, the sixth avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is also a faithful worshipper of Lord Shiva. He was gifted with a divine axe by Lord Shiva, which is displayed on the top of the temple. However, this sacred relic is also deteriorating and requires preservation.

This temple is not only a symbol of devotion but also a significant landmark in the cultural heritage of Varanasi. It is one of the five sacred spots that form the Panchakosi Parikrama, a spiritual circumambulation that grants liberation and purification to the devotees. According to legend, this temple was constructed around the 12th-13th centuries by the Chera king Athiyaman Perumal, but some archaeological evidence suggests that it may be much older.
